What Feasts at Night by T. Kingfisher

4.0

This short book continues to follow the former sworn soldier, Alex Easton, as they return to the lodge where they spend a part of their childhood and recovery from war trauma. However, they learn that Codrin, the man who was looking after the lodge, has recently suddenly passed away. Together with Angus and Miss Potter, joined by a Widow and her son Bors, they get wrapped into a supernatural story of a wronged woman.

I enjoy T. Kingfisher's writing style, but I must admit that I liked the previous book much more. I don't think it was any worse written, but the first one might have set quote high expectations. I felt that the first book was more grounded in natural horrors, while this one in nightmarish horrors, which due to blurry lines between dream and reality are not as impactful for me personally, but nevertheless interesting to read about.
