Overwritten and hamfisted. While I don’t typically care about a twist ending and having it spoiled or not, it’s obvious here within a few dozen pages, and yet the book is so cocky about it being a shock. It’s just one of the examples of the way it sacrifices the reality and effect of its own story for the sake of the plot.
