The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
5.0
I was distressed when I picked this book. Neil Gaiman closed the door to reality and took me into his world right from the first page. His imagery and language are so vivid you cannot help but feel you are watching a movie in your head. After I finished the book, I felt like I had lived in that graveyard. It's a very Gaiman-ish story. In that, there were different worlds within the graveyard world like the ghouls' and Sleer's. Like all of Neil's other works, this book too had imaginative prose, interesting characters, in-depth world-building, and a writing style that flows like butter.
I wish there was more of Nobody Owens. It felt like there was something missing in his characterization. But I liked how he was a boy who stood up for himself, refused to be a push-around, found his answers, raised his voice against authority, but was still kind and humble. That he still understood Silas, even when he was angry with him.
It was a beautiful experience reading this book.
