Nine Month Contract by Amy Daws

Did not finish book. Stopped at 10%.
Thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing and Canary Street Press for letting me read this book early. All thoughts are my own!!

DNF at 10%

I knew from the jump that this book wasn’t supposed to be serious, so I was prepared for that. However, I was not prepared for the very weird vibes this book gives off within this family dynamic. Other reviews mention things that support my theory, but I won’t add them here because I didn’t read that part myself.

Why are the uncles so involved in Everly’s sex life?? They keep saying she’s an adult, but they clearly don’t see her that way. She tells them she’s not a virgin, and they all go WILD and almost possessive. One of them literally screams. It’s definitely a weird vibe, paired with the other comments made about her and her uncle from Trista.

For some reason we switch to WYATT’S NEICE’S POV for three of the first five chapters. It reads like a journal entry. She says “OMG”, in dialogue instead of just saying “oh my god.” She references TikTok sounds in her head during her chapters, and unironically uses “rizz” twice in the first ten percent.

“When my dad is done rizzing my stepmother”

“I could overlook the cat-piss comment if she had that rizz about her.”

“‘Nobody’s gonna know...they’re gonna know...’That trending TikTok sound echoes in my head as I slide my shades on and pull my hood up over my hair.”

We jump back to Wyatt. He’s at the surrogacy place. He says the doctor talking to him has wide, hungry eyes and that the women in that place are always a little too eager. It’s weird behavior, and it gave me kind of bad vibes from him as a character. I read some other reviews, and it’s clear that I probably wouldn’t end up enjoying this book.

I’m saving myself from over 300 pages of whatever this is supposed to be.
