Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

A masterpiece! Timey wimey books seem to be my great weakness. Hand me a book with time travel, and I am bound to love it!

Sea of Tranquility was a genre-bending, time travel novel about pandemics, isolation, and simulations. Speculative fiction is my absolute favorite genre ever, and Mandel proves why that is. The book centers mainly around the Simulation Hypothesis; what if reality, as we perceive it is just a huge simulation run by some high intelligence/order? What if the rain, the sun, and music were all fake? Honestly, the less you know about this book before going in the better.

Think Cloud Atlas, and Doctor Who and Natasha Pulley. Sea of Tranquility was an amazing story that was bizarre and strange. The way the separate threads come together at the end is beautiful, and a hallmark of Mandel's great storytelling.

Definitely give it a try if you are a fan of Mandel's work and if you really like time travel and speculative books, like me!
