I think even as a middle grade aged reader, I don't know that I would have kept reading. The plot was fine enough, but I struggled with the simplistic diary-esqe writing style. Descriptions felt very clinical at times and not descriptive, so the ambience wavered overall for me.

No fault of the book mostly for the DNF though. My issues probably wouldn't bother the audience the book was intended for.
