Ah, that familiar moment when a child listens to their mother the first time, and the lesson immediately saves the child’s life. Maybe not... This is definitely the stuff of fairytales for us humans, but it’s a good example for young children, wrapped in a cuddly bunny story with a little bit of excitement.

Mother Tongue notes: There are excellent drawings of several North American forest animals (New World porcupine, American robin, woodchuck/groundhog).
Excellent variety of verbs. This is a fun story to have students act out, or replace the verbs in a mad libs style activity.
