Psycho Shifters by Jasmine Mas

My opinions of this book are incredibly mixed and intense, so please excuse this confusing review/rant.

This book is so incredibly full of cliches, it's unbearable! It may sound like I am exaggerating; trust me, I am not. The inner monologue of the female main character was (quite frankly) EXHAUSTING to read, and the whole "tiny little girl" thing was frustrating. The MC is literally 20 fucking years old and yet everyone treats her like she's 10!!!

I swear, the amount of times I had to read about the FMC being "small" (She's 5 and a half foot/167cm) "ugly" (LITERALLY EVERYONE WAS IN LOVE WITH HER) and "skinny" (this was constantly written as a negative, but seemed to me as though it wanted to appeal to readers who want to be that skinny bitch that people paid attention to and LITERALLY TRIED TO FORCE FEED) was fucking insane. It was painful to read and I honestly think my brain is damaged from the amount of eye-rolling I just went through.

AND WHY DID THIS BITCH ALWAYS HAVE VOMIT RUNNING DOWN HER MOUTH. THAT SHIT IS NASTY, GO SEE A DOCTOR, THAT ISN'T NORMAL!!

Also, the whole "damsel in distress, but she's actually a badass, but only sometimes, and the reasoning behind it isn't explained at all, but it was the only way for the author to make her a bit capable and femme fatale like, while still giving her a sad backstory and appealing to misogynistic stereotypes and ideals" thing was annoying as fuck and a pathetic excuse for a storyline. (No offense).

However, the writing (while being terrible in a literacy sense) was very easy to read, though it read like a Wattpad fanfiction (not AO3, don't get me wrong, it wasn't good enough for that). I also thought that the premise had a lot of potential and was kind of interesting. And I did read the entire book, and that's saying something, as I am VERY quick to DNF shit books. It was also a nice reprieve from the 1000 page high fantasy book I have been trying to get through for 4 months.

In conclusion, if you're in the mood for a trashy book, by all means, go ahead and read this. It totally lives up to that, and that's why I gave the book 2 stars instead of 1, because the trashiness was fun and relaxing to read. HOWEVER, I would never in a million bajillion years recommend this book to anyone I know in real life.

The end. Thank you for reading my thoughts. And yes, I will be reading the second book, and ignoring all the "little girl" talk because the cliffhanger has left me wanting more.
