I had a fantastic time reading this book! The story was entertaining and compelling and I really liked Violet and loved her and Xaden! Violet can possibly come across a little OP, but I think Rebecca did a good job of not making it so she was instantly good at everything. Even though there are moments where she falls towards the Mary Sue characterization, I found them balanced enough with her struggles that it didn’t bother me, especially during the last battle when it could have been so easy for her to suddenly be perfect and that wasn’t the case.
Also, some of the explanations around the war were confusing to me. I think because Violet kept being unsure about why the attacks were having when there was a Treaty, I was likewise confused. Also it seemed like they’d been at war for like 600 years but with no solid explanation for any of it. It, however, didn’t take away from my enjoyment.
The ending made me cry, like full on bawl, which I haven’t done for a book in a while so that was nice. And, on a lighter note, I kicked my feet several times with Xaden and Violets banter.
