Come With Me by Ronald Malfi

dark emotional mysterious medium-paced

5.0

Horror sub-genre: Mystery, paranormal, grief, psychological

Plot: Aaron's life is shattered when his wife is killed in a random act of violence. As he begins to go through her belongings he discovers mysterious receipts and objects that don't make sense to the person he knew, and he starts to investigate all that she had been doing before her death. Throughout the story he is haunted by her absence, and quite possibly her actual ghost, and wonders if he ever really knew his wife.

Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Though this is probably the least "horror" horror book of my 50 states challenge, it was also one of my favorites. This was the first Malfi book I read, and while he's become a favorite of mine since, I find that I seem to judge all of his other works against this one. It's rare that I would describe a horror book as beautiful, but the story, the characters, and the prose all easily fit into that category. I recommend this to basically everyone I come in contact with.
