The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott
3.0
I put this down for a while due to work and book club obligations. That did this book no favors, but it also did itself no favors. I miss the Dramatis Personae from the start of many of the Star Wars Legends books. I had a hard time with the large ensemble cast, keeping track of who was who. Scott kept the action going once the big threat arrived about two hundred pages in, and I had a hard time stopping after that. But he cuts scene to scene to scene, faster than many film editors. It made for a bit of a rough read as we barely saw anything happen with group A before we jump to group B and then group C and then back to A then over to D then back to C. Hard to watch a scene start to finish that way, but it did keep us in the moment.
The big twist at the end... we'll see where the High Republic goes from here, but I find myself less engaged with the villains and their next move than I was after Light of the Jedi or Into the Dark.
