I didn't realize this book was the second in a series when I purchased it, but it really can be read as a standalone novel. It was reminiscent of Practical Magic in the sense that it's a magical family of women, but the similarities mostly end there. I loved the different personalities of the characters and their interactions with one another. There's a cute romantic storyline as well. I liked it enough to purchase the first book in the series as well.
