The Raven Thief by Ashley Olivier
5.0
The Raven Thief -The Royal Thieves Trilogy Book 1- Review
Couple: Enya with Caron & Prince Rowan
Author: Ashley Olivier
Tropes: PNR, YA romance, epic quests, love triangle, missing pasts
Review: Ashley Olivier writes a fantastic read in this first book of the trilogy. The book centers around Enya, the famed Raven Thief, who has been secretly assisting the surrounding outskirts with surviving the mad king’s reign. We learn in this book that pieces of her history are missing and she does not understand why she has such strong ties to the three missing princes.
While out casing an area, Enya runs across the three princes that were believed to have gone missing and presumed dead. Crown Prince Rowan and his two brothers Niall and Beacon. The prince’s coral her into accepting their quest for the Sword of Bas to fight the Crimson Witch and then to prevent their deaths by the Queen. We soon realize the princes were kept isolated from the public since childhood and broke out of their tower to save themselves.
These events make Enya second guess herself and her beliefs as she gets closer to Rowan during their quest. The main conflict in this book is Enya overcoming her past and then her figuring out her feelings for Carson, a fellow thief. Book 1 is written solely from her POV and through her eyes we see how she begins to question herself towards Rowan and his grumpy self grows on her.
This was a great start to the trilogy and for YA fantasy readers this book has it all. The prophecy and magic quest, slow burn romance and forgotten pasts collide in this first book and the groups desire to save the kingdom from threats. I really liked the character development in this book and how Enya owns up to her mistakes but also knows when she needs to steel herself to make hard decisions. TO me she was a true leader of her people and the fact that she helps the princes who could easily betray her just shows how great she is.
Book 1 does end on a huge cliffhanger and leaves us wanting to know what happens next. Luckily for us, book 2 comes out soon and brings us that much closer to the conclusion of this series! This book is great for all the YA fantasy fans and anyone wanting a nice clean romance.
Rating: 5/5 read, great clean romance with epic fantasy quests!
