Darling Girl is marketed as a dark Peter Pan story which paints Peter Pan as the villain and not the hero that we all know and love... I was so excited for this one but that might be part of the reason I was so let down. This felt more like a medical mystery than anything else. The plot positively crept, I figured out the twists well before they were revealed, the characters were not relatable in any way, and Peter Pan?? I'm all for a villainous Peter dripping with dark magic and a sense of gleeful malice but making him
a drug dealing rapist adult man fathering children across London
??? Come ON!! That's certainly not the swoony, morally grey, so-bad-you-love-to-hate-him misaligned hero turned villain that I was hoping for! More like a
washed up homeless man with a heroin problem and too few showers in his life
. Ugh!
