"He had no chance, really. He was only flesh."
Such a short but powerful story with a beautiful, poetic prose that never ceases to transport me and touch my heart. Will I ever stop loving Madeline Miller's writing?
Galatea is so different from Madeline Miller's other characters and yet, I found the same comfort in her quiet resilience as I did with Patroclus' passion and Circe's power.
Pygmalion, her husband, was depicted in such an accurate fashion of misogynistic, controlling and abusive men that it really emphasized the message of this short story. It's not just about love, fate and tragedy, nor about emancipation, freedom and transformation, but about the silent strength of women, wives and mothers who still suffer nowadays from the Pygmalions of their existences.
Galatea is my new inspiration.
