The Stockholm Octavo by Karen Engelmann

4.0

An alternative historical suggestion behind the Stockholm politics of the late 18th century. There are suggestions of magical realism, but the action stays within the realm of feminine mystic and the power of suggestion, not to mention an array of poisons.

The story is built on the scaffolding of the multiple revolutions happening in Europe and America. The close examination of period fashion and culture, particularly ladies’ fans, adds depth and interest.

There were plenty of nods to the Swedish setting and culture, but at least one massive mistake was made. Pea soup and pancakes on WEDNESDAY?! A travesty. Maybe this was just the particular audiobook I listened to. An edit is required. Possibly an apology.
