I don’t know if I have the words to properly explain how much I loved this book. It’s been a MINUTE since I read a romantasy book that I really loved, but this was exquisite.
Let’s start with the world building. What a fascinating concept for a school for dragon riders. It had the thrills of Maze Runner or Hunger Games set in the backdrop of the themes/vibes of How to Train Your Dragon, which is one of my favorite franchises of all time. And in this the MC is a female who is an absolute badass despite having what seems like a problem with her joints/bones. It was just amazing.
And then you have it be enemies to lovers?? WITH ONE CHAPTER OF HIS POV AT THE END WHERE WE BASICALLY GET ALL HIS FEELS FROM THE WHOLE BOOK? Ugh, delectable. Not only is Xaden maybe just the hottest MMC in a while that I’ve read it also was really exciting to see him treat Violet as someone who is strong in her own right. That is what made him the swooniest of all. I also loved that it was never really a love triangle with Dain (😴) but instead just them the whole time.
Finally. We gotta talk about the twist ending. HER BROTHER IS ALIVE?! And leading/working with the revolution?! I need to immediately read book 2 to know exactly what’s up and what Rebecca Yarros has in store for us. But let me be clear. I will not stand for any of this Violet-Xaden break up nonsense. I will see them back together ASAP, please and thank you.
Wow. I knew the hype was high, but this went above and beyond my expectations. So glad I read it. I get it now. 🥹❤️🗡️🐉
UPDATE AFTER MY REREAD: It’s just as good as I remember. And the two bonus chapters from Xaden’s perspective are literally perfect. I truly would read all of Fourth Wing from his perspective. Just give me the same book from his perspective. He loves Violence so much. It’s actually disgusting and I love it. The cliffhanger is still so good. I also forgot how much Xaden fights for Vi at the end and I’m not worried about them coming back together in book 2. LET’S GO IRON FLAME. 🔥
AFTER REREADING AGAIN: I love that we get to see Xaden’s perspective on Violet being on death’s door. Chapter 39 is incredibly important to me.
