April 2024:
This was just as good on a re-read if not more. Still in love with Charlotte and I fully annotated and tabbed my book this time reading. Haley Cass has such a way of creating fleshed out characters that you can't help but fall in love with.
Oct 2021:
If I could give this more stars I would. This is going straight to my favorites list, right up at the top. I started this on a whim because I didn't have any audiobooks to listen to and the story captured me immediately.
This story follows Sutton, who has recently come out as bisexual and incredibly shy and awkward when it comes to talking to women, despite her degree in literature. After her best friends insistence, she downloaded a lesbian dating app, where she matches with gorgeous Charlotte. They start texting, and even though Charlotte has no interest in anything further than a one time hookup, agrees to help Sutton with her dating life, giving her advice on how to talk to women.
What stems from this is a friendship with the ups and downs of attraction. Charlotte is the granddaughter of the first women president and she intends to follow her role.
I listened to this on audiobook in a single weekend. The narrator wasn't my favorite in how she voiced Sutton, but even having said that it was so easy to move past because the story was so great. It's a very very long book, it has a running time of 21 hours which I thought was so long for a contemporary romance, however just half way through I found myself wishing it was longer. Once it was coming to an end I was begging for more.
I'm a huge fan of most romance tropes, but this has some of my favorites:
Sapphic,
Slow burn,
Steam,
Friends to lovers,
Friends with benefits.
This is a debut novel but you would never know. The characters are so well written and fleshed out they felt real. I felt all the emotions on each side. I loved both Sutton and Charlotte so much. They have different and distinct personalities.I swooned every time Charlotte called Sutton "Darling." Was happy to see when Sutton gained more confidence.
I'm not big on rereading books but this will be read again very soon, and I will be very excited to see what else this author puts out.
