Full Review:
I recently finished the audiobook of "The Five Year Lie" by Sarina Bowen, and it was a refreshing change from the typical suspense and thriller books I've been reading. The blend of romance and suspense worked surprisingly well, giving the story a unique dynamic that piqued my interest.
The main character, Ariel, and her son, Buzz, had rather quirky names—especially since both are Disney references—but that didn't detract from how likable they were. Equally, I found myself liking other key characters in the narrative, too. They felt relatable, even if the storyline occasionally dipped in its predictability. There were definitely moments of surprise, though, which kept things interesting and refreshing.
That said, some parts of the plot stretched the limits of believability, particularly towards the end, where things started to feel a little contrived. Still, I enjoyed the journey overall and would recommend this as a quick yet engaging read for anyone looking for a mix of intrigue, heartfelt moments, and a break from typical thrillers.
