I Was Born for This by Alice Oseman

5.0

*4.5*
Things I liked about this book:
♡ how it made me rethink fame and see that all of us humans are just kind of stumbling through life
♡ getting to see the negative effects of fame and fandom and how famous people don't have lives anywhere near perfect, even if they're privileged
♡ reflecting on the importance of respecting people's privacies and treating everyone as human
♡ at the end of the day, everyone needs to live a life of their own, but also, everyone needs something to believe in or to hold on to when things get rough
♡ friendships!! And bonding and how romance isn't everything and fame isn't and fandom isn't
♡ understanding why people fangirl/fanboy so hard, understanding why I did once
♡ family and knowing yourself
♡ the representation not being highlighted as a "hey this book has rep come reward me!!" but being genuinely part of the plot just like the other things

Things I didn't like so much:
- Juliet and Angel's friendship; until the end I didn't see any connection whatsoever, and then when they did talk and bonded it just kind of felt out of the blue because they never came across to me as friends. But also, I liked their bond in the end and how they had their realisations together.
- It striked me as unrealistic at some points when characters like Jimmy or Bliss would just trust fans they didn't know and would tell them personal stuff or trust them based on an "intuition", or get into their houses or inviting them in. But at the same time, this could be just a part them being normal people who don't always know better. It just seemed contradictory to Jimmy's paranoia and Bliss's mature nature.
