The Lost Village by Camilla Sten

3.0

I don't even know? 2.5? The concept of this completely hooked me--documentary film crew goes to a ghost town where something scary happened years ago!--but the execution was not my favorite. I had a hard time emotionally connecting with the characters or the present-day plotline, but I kept reading because I was invested in the past timeline and the underlying mystery. Unfortunately, the pace felt really slow and unnecessarily drawn out after awhile because I solved the mystery and only kept reading to find out if I was correct. (I mostly was, barring one act of God.)

Please note that the only resemblance this bears to Midsommar is the fact that it's set in Sweden and has a character with a developmental disability who lives in a hut. That comp is such a wild leap.
