I deeply appreciated the allegory of this book for those who have suffered religious trauma in their lives, especially at the hands of your own family members. In this respect, it was a very powerful story with strong messaging. I did wish for a bit more early on in the book, as it was very slow to build to much of anything happening until about 75% of the way in. There was also some awkwardness in the writing that made things a bit more difficult to follow, but it feels like how you would expect a debut novel to feel, and I have confidence that Jereé will be able to smooth some of this out in their future novels.

My favorite quote of the book: “Keep only the bonds that free you.”
