I generally love books where the characters are polyamorous, but the way this story had it's love story going was so so different from all of them it was extremely fresh and I couldn't get enough of it.
So about that romance story, gosh it was so good. Dealing with the loss of one of your partners is harsh and the pain was felt in every aspect of the main characters life and felt as a thing that was always present as a reader, validly so. Then when it would be there as a thing between the main character and their not-so-partner it hurt. It hurt so much. I would be reading and hoping they could find the way back together from the start of the book, knowing that that doesn't really happen easily and it will be a long road to get there. But damn was following that road so so worth it.
I greatly enjoyed that this magical school experience was from the perspective of a teacher for a change. It gave the book a lot more maturity than most I'm used to, while still having plenty of space for stupid teenage jokes. Because the stupid jokes in the books have made me laugh so hard multiple times. They are bad silly jokes but executed well and it made reading this book such a joy.
The plot around the vision kept me on my toes reading, always afraid of danger around the corner as both the main character nor I as a reader knew what would happen. It made this book extremely tense. But because of all the different emotions mixed through the book like the grief, the teenage laughter and the sexy moments it never felt too intense but instead exactly right.
All together I absolutely loved this book and the characters have gotten a special place in my heart along with all of the sobbing moments I had.
I received an eARC and this was my honest review.
