Zero Repeat Forever by G.S. Prendergast

3.75

I was provided an ARC of this book by the publisher through a Goodreads giveaway. This in no way affects the integrity of my review.

This is a really difficult book to rate because I liked the book overall, it had an interesting premise and the execution of it was also strong, but at the same time it was a lot darker, less sci-fi and more dystopia than I was expecting it to be. I think the key to truly enjoying this book is to go in with the right expectations. It is definitely not a super action-filled, fast-paced book; it is more slow, character driven, and heavy on the survival struggle of a post apocalyptical situation.

I really liked the diversity of the characters, which isn't usually seen as much of in non-contemporary books. Though the plot line would seem to be more action based, it is very heavy on the character development and focuses on different interactions from two different perspectives. The first half is a lot of buildup and it honestly doesn't really start to pick up until the second half. There is a twist at the end and it is shocking but I admit that I guessed from almost the very beginning of the book. I think I will continue with the series, but I hope that the second book will have a more fast paced plot now that the world building has been developed.
