The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen
5.0
I adored this book. It struck me as such a perfect blend of the post-apocalyptic and fantasy genres that it was something altogether new.
The main character is both extensively educated in the arts of politics and yet also woefully ignorant of the state of the kingdom she inherits on her 18th birthday.
There's court intrigue (a small enough amount that it didn't annoy me), murder, a mysterious rogue (my favorite!), and a core of complex characters that all come together to make this one of my new favorite fantasy novels.
