A Familiar Stranger by A.R. Torre

2.0

I needed to quickly find an audiobook on Audible and chose this one as I had read The Good Lie by A.R. Torre and given it 5 stars. I had no clue what this book was about before starting but noticed it has a pretty high average rating and positive reviews.
Unfortunately this is not the experience I had with the book, and I'm left pretty disappointed by it. I was actually going to DNF this book at the 30% mark, I wasn't personally fond of the narration and Lillian's character and the marital affairs were just very dull to me. I did decide to stick with it purely just because I didn't have another audiobook lined up. But this book was a complete waste of my time.
There is a lot of 'current' themes that I just am not a fan of, including TikTok and cryptocurrency. When these were mentioned in the book, I immediately began to dislike the story. In my opinion, there is not a single likeable character, I didn't like the family, Lillian, Mike or Jacob, and the other characters David, Sam, even Lenny, I didn't care for.
So I'm scoring it 2/5 stars, and I think you would enjoy this book if you enjoy twists and turns and multiple threads of plot. There were some shocking twists I didn't see coming at all, but whilst they surprised me I just didn't enjoy them. I think the main twist was 'The Death' which is counted down to in the chapters and this was what I actually laughed at because it was so ridiculous and not what I signed up for.
⭐️⭐️ 2/5
