I am not someone who regularly talks about how beautifully written something is, but Smith’s background as a poet truly shines. His descriptions of locations, people, and events make you feel physically transported there and then he takes you even deeper with his personal thoughts and connections to emotionally entangle you on the journey. Add in hearing it spoken to you in audio and it’s an entire experience.
This is also a perspective that I’m not aware of many people exploring in this great of depth. Smith teaches historical events by examining how we tell the history and how we connect to that oral and memorialized history. It leaves you thinking, questioning, and examining how other histories are being told and by whom.
