The fun continues in Port Snow, but this time with Rogan and his former love, Harper. Rogan was the grumpy one out of all his brothers, always serious and honestly not the easy going type of guy. Once upon a time ago, Rogan had pictured his life differently, especially when he was engaged to Harper. I know shocking right? Rogan was once engaged?! And another revelation was that he broke off the engagement to Harper. Obviously something happened to Rogan that changed his life dramatically and caused a big fall out for him and those around him too. With Harper back in Port Snow, Rogan was faced with the woman he once couldn’t live without, and quite honestly he was STILL in love with her despite the seven years that had pasted. This story had, small town, second chance romance, childhood sweethearts, grumpy man (Rogan duh), and of course the Knightly family appearing yet again as part of the series.

Early on, it was hinted that something had happened to Rogan many years ago that prompted him to breaking off his engagement with Harper, and irrevocably changed his life. Rogan was the grumpy one out of his whole family, but according to Brig (youngest Knightly brother), he wasn’t always like that. In the previous book, we saw Rogan usually keeping to himself and occasionally meddle in Griffins life just like the rest of the family, but when it came to Rohan’s own personal life, it was on lock down. I was very curious to see what would happen in this book in terms of seeing more of Rogan and discovering what led to his change in demeanor, as well as the break up with Harper.

With Harper back in Port Snow, there was also something that prompted her return, but it also brought back the memories of when she was with Rogan. The cool thing about this book was getting to see flashbacks of when Harper and Rogan were in high school and seeing how they became best friends, to becoming romantically involved. In the flashbacks, Rogan seemed more laid back, fun, and humorous. When it came to Rogan being with Harper, he was always enamored with her and when they were starting to see each other as more than friends, I thought it was sweet how Rogan described how he wanted to hold, kiss, and be much more with Harper. Harper as well in the past couldn’t help but want more with Rogan, and cherished both his friendship and love so wholeheartedly. Plus it was pretty cute seeing Harper and Rogan as teenagers being so carefree, and having fun, whereas now as adults things weren’t as it use to be, they had responsibilities and life experiences that changed them in different ways. The comparison between past and present revealed a lot about the kind of relationship Harper and Rogan use to have. Rogan and Harper were once a package deal, always spending time together, but obviously something changed that led to their breakup. With the past and present chapters, I loved seeing the different events that happened in Harper and Rohan’s lives, and while some things were sad, there were also some pretty wholesome and endearing memories that Harper and Rogan shared together.

Despite the years apart, Rogan was still in love with Harper. For all intents and purposes, Rogan believed that he needed to distance himself from Harper so he wouldn’t hurt her again, but… Rogan managed to dig himself in deep holes when saying the wrong things to Harper which put him in rocky situations. Rogan was always the one who kept things close to himself and never shared how he truly felt, so to see him still heartbroken over losing Harper and feeling horrible about the way he treated her showed his guilt, but also remorse on all the time they lost. Even though Rogan had made some mistakes, he still was able to show his romantic side such as, the fact that the name of his realtor company was named, My Forever Girl, as in a call back to the letters Rogan and Harper found as teenagers, but also the nickname Rogan had for Harper. In addition, all the homes Rogan bought for his business, were all the houses that Harper dreamed about. COME ON! You gotta admit that right there was pretty darn romantic! Rogan’s outer exterior may have been stand off-ish towards Harper, but deep inside he was a softie with a romantic side when it came to Harper.

Rogan and Harper’s story was told over the course of many years from the past when they were young teenagers in love to the present coming back together as adults, and rediscovering their love once again. Rogan was grumpy and seemed so serious in the first book, but this time around seeing his more playful and goofy side come out around Harper was endearing and entertaining. Harper had her own reasons for coming back to Port Snow, and I was glad to see her what she truly wanted out of her life. Rogan and Harper’s journey wasn’t easy, but through the ups and downs, they managed to grow and learn from one another. With the rest of the Knightly’s still in the story, the close knit family shared laughs and humor that made me smile. I loved this story and Rogan’s grumpy personality started to soften and reveal his soft, romantic side to Harper. Obviously I had my fair share of laughs and swooning, I grew attached to the characters. The mystery behind the Forever Girl was fascinating and to see Rogan finally figure out the mystery was fun! I loved this story and the epilogue truly tied up Rogan and Harper’s loving story in a happily ever after.
