The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem

5.0

The Jasad Heir is an Egyptian-inspired adult fantasy novel and it features the 'chosen one' who bears a heavy responsibility but vehemently opposes this duty - she wants freedom & a peaceful life. It is a story filled with magic and explores many themes including loyalty & betrayal, trauma & resilience, duty & freedom, & having a responsibility & a life that has been entirely used & shaped by others. About belonging to a community but not necessarily truly feeling apart of it.

As Sara Hashmen wrote 'my objective was to dive into what could make a character like Sylvia - a character who vehemently opposes being a hero- choose to stay instead of run.' Sylvia was a brilliant main character she was angry & filled with rage, brimming with passion, she was defiant & outspoken, easy to anger but could also hold her tongue if needed.

The romance in The Jasad Heir is between the protagonist & antagonist, the hero & villain, its enemies to lovers and it is intense & toxic at times and yet I couldn't help rooting for them BUT I enjoyed the 'twist' at the end & the betrayal & if I completely honest
Spoiler I would adore it if Slyvia truly fights against Arin in the next novel & wins bc truly she deserves to be with someone who doesn't hate her heritage!

Anyway, a brilliant debut fantasy novel & I really hope that the next novel is in the works bc I need it!!
