an original take on dystopian future
pros:
- very gripping and powerful
- makes you think hard about refugees and what we're doing and not doing to help
- Mhari was complex and a true survivor, none of what she'd been through was dismissed or minimalised
- the ending was dramatic and powerful
- well written mostly
cons:
- not sure if it was entirely PC to depict migrant suffering or not
- the talk of the "Castle" at the start was confusing and unnecessary and the lists of sound effects were annoying. Hard to tell who the book was aimed at - the cover says kids, but it's a harrowing story
