This was a sweet cozy fantasy to listen to and it is the book that paved the way for the popularity of this genre. It is a sweet story of changing who you are for the better, shily developing queer love, and most of all, your found family. I love how the found family concept highlighted the strength of a close-knit community enveloped in mutual support and love - as it is something not often seen in real life anymore, but so beautiful when experienced, even if just in a book.
I've now read two different cozy fantasies back to back and while the stories are well-written and so dear, I realized that I'm most used to high-stake high-fantasies and that I will have to dose my exposure to cozy stories to appreciate them fully. They could be good as what people call palate cleansers in between heavy fantasy series (of which there are many).
I wish more people read and loved this cozy duology as I missed seeing more fan art online. I grew to enjoy looking up art to learn how others envision the book characters and it often helped me when I could not immediately imagine a new character as soon as it was introduced in the story.
