More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera

I dnf this last month because I wasn't vibing with it. I think I was at around 50% mark of the book when I decided to put it down. But a while ago, I decided to pick it up and finish it.
I dunno, guys, but when someone tells me that a book would make me cry, I always end up dry as hell. It's not a bad book, in my opinion. Characters are not one-dimensional. The writing is fine. Everything is pretty average. I just felt UNDERWHELMED. Like, I dunno what's wrong with me; I should have related to this one because of (1) depression, (2) the desire to forget a painful experience, and (3) the gay shit. But sadly, I felt NOTHING.
PS: these pop culture reference took me off the story multiple times (not a major gripe, just an observation).
It's not you, it's the hollow, empty me. *sighs*
