This is a wonderful album. The illustrations are just magnificent, with yet this naive aspect to them. I enjoyed the subtle commentary on monoculture and the importance of a diversified flora. Having studied French Literature, I also greatly appreciated all the literary references within the text; a well-crafted nature + culture narrative. Lastly, recognize my self, as a kid, playing outside with rocks and dirt and nothing much. The way the kids collected nothing of importance yet holding all the importance of the world for them, how they created projects and magic with what surrounded them; it's just done to perfection. It makes me long for summers!
