Lovely One: A Memoir by Ketanji Brown Jackson, Ketanji Brown Jackson

4.0

I was lucky enough to hear the Justice speak at the Apollo for this book tour, and I was so excited to read her story. It did not disappoint. I love her journey to the Court and her family's stories and the context, such as her pool incident and her parents' generation lack of access to pools and therefore swimming ability. A beautiful story of a post civil rights Black woman and what that means for today's United States.

She has been surrounded and supported by so many amazing people. I loved how she got her daughter's consent to tell her story and to hear it in her own voice. One quibble was she overused neurodiverse. I'll grant there might not be a great synonym.

Comment on the audio: Jackson's voice is soft and this could have been recorded better. It makes the book a challenge to listen to in loud environs. I do love that she told her story, especially the excitement around The Call from Biden.
