“So many parents will try to kill everything brilliant about a girl in the name of giving her a good life, a safe life, a chance at happiness.”
This is the kind of book where, once I finished it, I just had to sit and stare at a wall for a little bit to process everything. I loved the hard magic system and Wang did a stellar job leading the reader to the right conclusions at the same pace as Sciona, which made for several very satisfying and emotionally devastating realizations. The social commentary is sharp and while the ending destroyed me emotionally, it felt like the only right way to end this story.
