This was not what I expected, and I loved it. It starts in modern-day New York City before diving into a very intricate fantasy world with immortal beings, gods, and monsters. It's definitely more fantasy than romance. Super slow burn, with very little spice. There's lots of world-building, political intrigue, and history, as expected from the first book in a series. Definitely had to use every single one of my brain cells to get through all that info. I really enjoyed the story and loved all the characters, so I'm definitely going to binge-read the rest of the series.
Moderate: Mental illness, Slavery, Violence, and War
Minor: Death of parent and Abandonment
