If Only I Had Told Her by Laura Nowlin

Rating: 3.5

Note: To understand this book, you will definitely have to read If He Had Been With Me first

This book was far superior to its successor, If He Had Been With Me, in terms of writing. I can tell that the author matured a lot in her craft between then and now. I also liked that the story covered more about the side characters than just Autumn, who was the focus of the first book. While her story is tragic, her character was insufferable, in my opinion. So it was nice to get to know Finn's friends and those who were impacted by his death other than Autumn.

The story itself was a great look at grief, and it was very painful to read in many parts. Seeing grief from a variety of viewpoints was beautiful, and getting to experience Finn's perspective in the first third of the novel was heartbreaking but so well done.

However, there were quite a few typos and grammatical errors that took me out of the story. I also found that the ultrasound sonographer was not realistic and borderline unethical - the ultrasound sonographer NEVER discusses what they see in a patient's imaging with the patient, the doctor always discusses the imaging with the patient. Also, it's called an "anatomy scan," not an "organ scan"
