The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
5.0
The Way of Kings is one of the main reasons I love reading. It's one of the reasons I love fantasy and get excited when I see a massive 1000 page tome. There is such wonder and adventure to have.
And The Way of Kings lives up to it tremendously. Even on my third re-read, I'm still blown away by the sheer scale of world building, and character work accomplished.
Upon re-read several things have stuck out to me. Brando Sando's foreshadowing is next level. Things are hinted that are not revealed for over 3000 pages in book four. I can only imagine what I have missed, and what things have been foreshadowed when I read this book again after book ten.
However several weaknesses have stood out even more now that I am intimately familiar with the larger story. My main issue is Shallan, in this book, a lot of her story feels disconnected and irrelevant, ruining the pacing. I find my self still wanting to skip her chapters and get back to what I think is the main story in the Shattered Plains.
