This book… this book really snuck up on me. Cyrus’ story has such a tangibility to it that it takes root in your heart with its unapologetic self-deprecation, utter tragedy, and undeniable humanity. At the centre of it there’s art - art as a gift, as god greater than death, as a story instead of an ornament. Martyr is the life we lead on borrowed time, and who we love and what we create in this time frame.
