The Silent Wife by A.S.A. Harrison
4.0
This book is much better than what I expected. The only thing that grates me the wrong way is how the story is written in the present tense third-person (WHY???). The bits on psychology thrown here and there might be too much for some readers, but I honestly don't mind. Not that I plan to understand all of them, really.
The Silent Wife tells a story about a 'wife' (though not really, because they were never married) who refuses to speak up and address things when they go wrong, and instead, keeps playing pretense as if everything is perfectly fine. Her 'husband' is a perpetual cheater with zero self-awareness and zero plan to redeem himself, and when things go downhill, the wife decides that she should save herself whatever it takes.
I love this book because the ending is so-damn-satisfying. I don't always agree with how the wife, Jodi Brett, acts and thinks and behaves but I would be lying if I say I didn't root for her from the moment I know her husband of twenty-eight (?) years is a cheating and lying asshole. Yeah, this is how every domestic thriller story should end: absolute victory and a happily-ever-after life for the victim of a cheating partner.
