The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian
2.0
This was a random grab. I knew it had been adapted into a streaming show, but I'd never watched it. And I knew it was about a raging alcoholic woman who spends most nights blackout drunk. So I was wary. But I tried. And it was... okay. It was clearly inspired, at least the drunk parts, by Sarah Hepola and the author's note at the end confirmed that he did, in fact, become fascinated with her memoir and write much of this with that in mind. And it was an interesting attempt at a spy novel, though I don't think his style is suited to it. The series of reveals at the end didn't follow the set up and it was all a little too pat. There was none of the genuine tension of The Midwife. Not the worst thing I ever read, but probably actually better suited to screen than page.
