Clive Barker's Hellraiser Vol. 2 by Stephen Thompson, Clive Barker, Christopher Monfette
5.0
I´m always surprised when really short novels and novellas manage to tell such a captivating story with fully fletched characters and where nothing seems to be missing. This is what this book was to me. Even though it only has a little over 100 pages, the story was told perfectly without feeling rushed or characters and concepts seeming underdeveloped.
There were weird and creepy bits, as you would expect from it, but also really nice character moments and even developement especially for one of them. Most multiple POV books I´ve read have around 500 pages or more but I still think we get to know Frank, Julia and Kirsty pretty well in the short time we spend with them.
The cenobites, even if they don´t appear that much, leave an impression. They are a fascinating concept that really emphasize the motivation of Frank and later on Kirsty to not be trapped with them. The horror aspects of the book aren´t too gory or gross by todays standarts but I woulnd call them tame by any means.
I really loved reading this classic of horror literature and would totally recommend it.
