This one’s a little hard to rate. Maybe a 2,5⭐️? I loved the author’s foreword and her prose. It’s an interesting story surrounding ocean preservation, carrying memories, abandonment and grief. It had a solid beginning, discovering each character’s culture/habits and their teaming up, but it unravelled towards the end. It would have benefited from being a little longer (not necessarily a full-length novel) to dive deeper into the themes and better handle the violence. I can’t talk about it without mentioning the TW (they’re in the book) because I don’t feel like the sexual violence towards the end was handled in the best way possible.

TW: Abandonment - Animal Cruelty - Death - Grief - Self-Harm - Suicide - Near-Drowning - State and Police Violence - Rape and Forced Pregnancy
