This is the first book I’ve read of Lackeys and when picking it up I didn’t realize that they’ve written 40+ books in the Vladimir world. But as a reader I shouldn’t be expected to, so at the start I was very lost as she didn’t provide much backstory. Luckily it’s easy to catch on and things make more sense later on. I found the dialogue unbelievable and cringy, but sometimes it was endearing. I will say that the last half of the novel was really good. She got me hooked and I was super invested in the plot. She stole my heart with all the dogs too. I think I will be reading some of her earlier work as I am interested in Vladimir. I am excited for the next book in the series!
