The Wives by Tarryn Fisher
5.0
This is one of those stories that do what all classic thriller/mystery/suspense novels do, it keeps you guessing. Every single character in this book isn’t quite who they seem and there’s always something going on behind the scenes.
Thursday is part of a polygamist marriage with her husband Seth. Thursday is also at war with herself right from the very beginning about snooping into Seth’s life to find out more about his other wives to find out why being with her just isn’t enough. She tells herself to let sleeping dogs lie, but we all know to get the ball rolling, that isn’t going to happen. The more she digs into his life, his phone, his clothes, his closet, etc, the more she uncovers and winds up resenting him over. The more she knows means the more she has to play the role of a perfect wife so that Seth doesn’t catch onto what she’s been up to during the days of the week they aren’t together. Only, things begin going wrong and it turns out that Seth may actually be a step or two ahead of Thursday playing detective.
This story is full of twists and turns, close calls, sensuality, danger, conniving characters, and so much more. I’ve not only spent years admiring Tarryn’s compelling stories, but also her writing style. I admire and envy the way she masters becoming her characters every single time, and how she got into the headspace of a polygamist marriage for The Wives is beyond me. I cheered for these characters, I screamed at them (internally of course), and held my breath, completely full of anxiety as to what would happen next.
If you’re looking for a solid, fast-paced, chest-clenching book that will leave you breathless on the edge of your seat and is filled with pages you won’t want to put down, you’ll need to grab a copy of this book if you haven’t already. Take a break from the house, step outside, get some sun and fresh air, and lose yourself in the thrills and chills this story offers you. The Wives grabs you right from page one and keeps you guessing even after you’ve reached The End.
