While years ago, I absolutely loved Seven Days in June I think this book is a sign that I may have outgrown William’s writing. A Love Song for Ricki Wilde was humorous and entertaining, but there were characters that felt like caricatures and lacked any type of depth and the story was pretty predictable with a few touching moments and cringe-worthy ones.
I feel like this book is something that will translate well on screen with the way it is written, but hopefully certain scenes will be re-worked so they won’t feel like they are trying to hard to be modern/contemporary. I like the concept of Perennials tied into Ricki and Ezra’s love story, but I felt more creativity here would have made it more compelling.
I did love the ode to black florists, it was a lovely touch that made Ricki’s story feel more alive. Overall, this a lighthearted read that will give you a few giggles and tap dance on your heart strings.
