84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff
5.0
This was such a lovely little book! I had the great fortune to read the recently published Slightly Foxed edition. Which has the most divine cherry red cover and creamiest of pages. Like Hanff described in her novel, it is the perfect size to stick in one's pocket and take outside to read.
I can't praise this book enough! What a gem. I found myself laughing, and feeling all the emotions from start to finish. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves books, enjoys handwritten notes and witty banter from a lively and talented woman.
Favorite Quotes:
"I love inscriptions on flyleaves and notes in margins, I like the comradely sense of turning pages someone else turned, and reading passages someone long gone has called my attention to." pg. 41
"...I shall sprinkle pale pencil marks through it pointing out the best passages to some book-lover yet unborn. " pg. 69
"I remember years ago a guy I knew told me that people going to England find exactly what they go looking for. I said I'd go looking for the England of English literature, and he nodded and said: 'It's there.'" pg. 107
