The Guest Book by Sarah Blake

5.0

This haunting story about wealth ... and history ... and privilege ... and intergenerational relationships ... and racial injustice stayed with me so strongly that I had to retrieve it from my library borrowing history when I couldn't remember its name. Evie, a history professor who can make the subject come alive for her students, is drawn into a much more personal quest to uncover her own family's history and secrets and many versions. I'd not have imagined I would enjoy a book about a family rich enough to own its own island, much less come to understand and care about them. But Sarah Blake made it happen.
