You've Reached Sam by Dustin Thao
5.0
➼ five stars
“Letting go isn’t about forgetting. It’s balancing moving forward with life, and looking back from time to time, remembering the people in it.”
I don’t know how I’m still able to form a coherent sentence after reading this book. It destroyed me and the amount of time I spent crying is insane. “You’ve reached Sam” was so heart wrenching and beautiful and everything I wanted it to be!
It was so hard to read through Julie and Sam’s phone calls. It made me happy that she would get closure but at the same time I was so sad knowing that the phone calls won’t last forever. This book gives a really great example on how every single person griefs in a different way and how losing someone close to us can take a really big toll on our life as well as our future. Before I read the last one hundred pages I took a break just to kinda prepare myself for the ending and the epilogue. My heart was shattered into pieces but it was so worth it!
“I still think about Sam from time to time, but the memories are fond, letting me breathe easier. Even though he isn’t here, I still see him everywhere. And for the first time, the thought of this brings me comfort.”
This is now one of my favourite books and it will forever have a special place in my heart. The characters were all so amazing, from Julie and Sam to their friends and family members, especially Mika and James!!! I’m trying to write a spoiler free review but it’s hard when I just want to name all these moments in the book that made me feel so hard for these characters.
Anyways, Dustin Thao had no place writting such a perfect book. I can’t literally think of anything that I didn’t like but I only wish it was longer!
Everyone should immediately read this book and I absolutely can’t understand how anyone could rate this anything under five stars.
Sam and Julie forever!
“You called me.” His voice is as calm as water. “And I picked up. Like I always do.”
