I think this book probably would have benefited from a bit more pre-amble as the beginning of the story is spent more getting your footing in the world rather than getting into the story. However, the real meat of the story happens in the final third, with an ending that left me breathless. That was more than enough to bump it up a star in my rating and peak my curiosity for the rest of the series.
